Beijing 2008 is over, but the cheers are still being heard for the athletes. Same goes for the Team Nutrilite athletes who were honored and congratulated in this full page ad that appeared in yesterday’s USA Today.
Linda and I watched more of the games than we ever have before (a testament to the great job done by the Chinese organizers). The Bird’s Nest was fantastic for track and field and the Water Cube was a beautiful location for swimming and diving. We didn’t expect such amazing buildings! The opening of the games was the most remarkable of any Olympics we’ve ever watched. (Even the commercials were better than the Superbowl commercials!)
All 5 of the Team Nutrilite athletes were scheduled to compete in these games and four of them came home with medals! The only not to medal (or even participate), Liu Xiang, the world-class hurdler from China, had to withdraw just as his race began due to an injury.
The newest member of Team Nutrilite is also the new star of AC Milan, soccer great Ronaldinho. Playing for his home country of Brazil, what a great performance he put on controlling the middle of the field and winning the bronze in a 3–0 victory over Belgium.
Sanya Richards had us on the edge of our seats watching the 4X400 relay. After a disappointment in the individual event, she ran the anchor leg for the relay. Behind the Russian competitor by quite a few yards as the baton was passed, there was no way she was going to lose that race. Sanya poured her heart and soul into the last 75 feet and crossed the finish line as a gold metal winner!
There wasn’t a lot of coverage for pole vault (maybe the event took place at three in the morning Seattle time and we missed it). But we saw the replay of Jenn Stuczynski attempting to beat the Russian champ for the gold. Jenn did an amazing job staying ahead of the whole field, but couldn’t overtake the Russian. She proudly brings home the silver medal.
And the man that could be considered the anchor of Team Nutrilite, the ‘face’ of Double X, Asafa Powell, also experienced both disappointment and achievement at the games. This former world record holder for the 100 meter dash came up a bit short in that race in the Beijing. But he anchored the 4×100 relay for his Jamaican team, setting a world record of 37.10 … a full three-tenths of a second knocked off a record standing since 1993! We were excited to see him earn his first Olympic medal. Excellent job, Asafa!
Linda and I cheered on each of our Nutrilte sponsored athletes with pride. The dedication involved in becoming an Olympian is second to none. We feel Nutrilite is a world class company, stepping up to help these four athletes become the best they could be
